Life Coaching & Executive Function Coaching
“Some life coaches take a more general, all-encompassing approach, but there are also many that specialize and focus on helping people in specific areas” (Verywell Mind). Some of those specific areas can include relationship coaching, career coaching, finance coaching, mental health coaching, life skills coaching, and wellness coaching.
I would say that Executive Function/ADHD coaching can overlap with some life coaching; often depending on the coach’s experience and expertise.
Both styles of coaching:
Address real-time needs
Are action-oriented
Work towards future goals
Motivate
Hold clients accountable
How Do EF & Life Coaching Work Together?
I incorporate life coaching in Kanter Coaching through the fact that our executive function skills impact all areas of our life: our career, finances, relationships, mental health, life skills, wellness, and more. Depending on the lead of the client, we will strengthen EF skills through the real-life area of challenge or struggle. For example, teaching someone how to study when not in school is different then helping in real-time the best way to study for an upcoming test. Whenever possible, we want to strengthen and practice the skill with real-life examples.
So Which Coach Is Right For You?
Even though some life coaches don’t cover EF skills, and some executive function coaches don’t cover life skills and general life topics, don’t get too caught up in the different coaching titles. The bottom line is finding a coach who:
You like and can see yourself working well together.
Understands your needs.
Can help you set and meet your goals.
Has experience working with someone of a similar age range and neurology.
How Can Kanter Coaching Help You?
Coaching can help you:
Understand which life skills you might benefit from improving or addressing.
Understand your executive function strengths and areas for improvement.
Create attainable goals.
Find strategies to support your daily needs.
Create systems, habits, routines, and structures.
